The electromagnetic (EM) technique is based on the response of the ground to the propagation of an electromagnetic field created by the survey instrument. The EM survey technique has a number of different applications and can be applied to both reconnaissance and detailed ground investigations. Main components of the EM instrument are a transmitter (for the generation of primary field) and receiver (measurement of the induced secondary field).
Typical applications are:
- Detection of buried metallic objects
- Contaminant mapping
- Minerals exploration (ground and airborne)
- Groundwater exploration
